Celebrating the 50th anniversary of operation frequent wind

During the 50th anniversary of Operation Frequent Wind, Nickle Productions documented and produced a recap film honoring the USS Midway’s pivotal role in the largest helicopter evacuation in history.

In April 1975, the Midway’s flight deck became a lifeline—receiving dozens of helicopters and evacuating thousands of civilians and personnel from Saigon. Fifty years later, our coverage helped capture a moment of remembrance, reflecting on the courage, ingenuity, and humanitarian legacy of the sailors and aircrews who carried out the operation under extraordinary conditions.

Veterans Day parade

The San Diego Veterans Day Parade, proudly sponsored by the USS Midway Museum, brought together veterans, active-duty service members, families, and the local community to honor those who have served. Marching through downtown San Diego, the parade celebrated military service across generations, highlighting the shared legacy, sacrifice, and resilience of the armed forces. The event served as a powerful reminder of the Midway’s ongoing commitment to preserving history, honoring veterans, and connecting the public to the stories behind the uniform.

Fourth of July

The USS Midway Museum’s Fourth of July celebration transforms the historic flight deck into a front-row seat for San Diego’s Independence Day festivities. Featuring live entertainment, patriotic programming, and panoramic views of the bay, the event culminated in a spectacular fireworks display honoring the nation’s history and those who have served. The celebration underscored the Midway’s role as both a living museum and a gathering place for community and remembrance.

Top Gun: Maverick movie night

The USS Midway Museum hosts a special screening of Top Gun: Maverick on its iconic flight deck, offering audiences an unforgettable movie night. The Midway also served as the site of the film’s global premiere, marking a historic, full-circle moment for a story rooted in naval aviation. Together, the events celebrated the enduring connection between cinema, service, and the legacy of the USS Midway.
